United States
No dental cover? The gap is the price, not the dentistry
About 27% of US adults have no dental insurance (CareQuest, 2024), and Medicare does not cover routine dental care. A single implant at home is typically USD 3,000–7,000; the same work at a Chinese public hospital is priced under a national cap. The trade-off is distance and two trips.
United Kingdom
When you cannot get an NHS dentist at all
Among adults in England without a dentist who tried to book an NHS appointment, 94.1% could not get one (ONS, late 2024). Private implants typically cost GBP 2,000–3,000 per tooth. Many people now compare Turkey, Hungary — and increasingly China.
Canada & Australia
Public plans stop short of implants
Canada’s Dental Care Plan covers crowns but does not list implants; Australia’s Medicare does not generally cover adult dental care. Implants are self-funded in both countries, typically CAD 3,000–6,000 and AUD 3,500–6,000.
Why China
Hospital dentistry at a government-regulated price
Since January 2023, China’s national procurement has cut the average implant price by 55% and capped the service fee at public tertiary hospitals. You are treated in the stomatology department of a large hospital, with CBCT on site — and you can add a full health checkup or TCM in the same trip.

How a dental trip to China works
- 1
1. Send your X-ray from home
Upload a recent panoramic X-ray or CBCT and photos. A Chinese dentist reviews them and sends a treatment plan with an itemised quote.
- 2
2. First trip: implant placement (about 3–7 days)
Consultation, CBCT, extraction if needed and implant surgery. Full-arch cases usually need 7–10 days.
- 3
3. Healing at home (about 3–6 months)
The implant fuses with the bone. You go home with a temporary tooth and remote follow-up with the clinic.
- 4
4. Second trip: final crown (about 4–7 days)
The permanent crown or bridge is fitted and checked. You leave with your records in English for your local dentist.
Common questions
How much do dental implants cost all in?
Typical advertised ranges for one implant with abutment and crown: USD 3,000–7,000 in the US, GBP 2,000–3,000 privately in the UK, CAD 3,000–6,000 in Canada and AUD 3,500–6,000 in Australia. At a Chinese public hospital a routine case costs about CNY 6,000–7,000 (≈ USD 900–1,050) after the 2023 national price reform. Premium brands, bone grafts and international departments cost more, and foreign patients pay the full listed price.
How long does a dental implant take?
The implant needs about 3–6 months to fuse with the bone before the final crown, so a trip abroad is usually two visits: about 3–7 days for placement and about 4–7 days for the crown. Full-arch cases usually need 7–10 days on the first visit. Immediate-load teeth are possible only when bone quality allows.
What is included in the price of an implant?
A single implant is a bundle: the implant, the abutment that connects it to the tooth, the crown, the surgery, imaging and follow-up. “From” prices often leave out the CT scan, extractions, a bone graft or sinus lift, a zirconia crown or a temporary tooth. Ask every clinic for an itemised quote with the total in one currency.
How much do dental implants cost in China compared to Turkey and Hungary?
Advertised prices for one implant with crown are about EUR 450–900 in Istanbul and EUR 700–1,000 in Budapest, mostly private-clinic packages. A routine implant at a Chinese public hospital costs about CNY 6,000–7,000 (≈ USD 900–1,050), at a nationally regulated price. Compare the total plan, including implant brand, number of visits and aftercare, not only the headline price.
Is it worth traveling abroad for dental implants?
It can be, if the total cost including flights and two trips is still well below your local quote, and you plan aftercare before you go. Turkey and Mexico are closer for many people and advertise low package prices. China offers a public-hospital setting with regulated prices, and you can add a full health checkup or a TCM consultation to the same trip.
Do dental implants require a bone graft?
Not always. It depends on how much bone is left where the tooth was, which a CT scan shows. A graft adds cost and healing time, so make sure your quote says whether one is included. The China price above is for a routine case without a bone graft.
