No NHS dentist?
Can’t get an NHS dentist? Get treated without the wait
In England, 94.1% of adults without a dentist who tried to book an NHS appointment in the last month could not get one (ONS, 2024). Private treatment at home is the usual answer. A Chinese public hospital is another: a routine implant costs about CNY 6,000–7,000 (≈ USD 900–1,050), booked around your trip.

Why it is so hard
An NHS dentist is not something you register with for life
NHS dental practices take patients for a course of treatment, and many are not taking new NHS patients at all. The ONS found that almost everyone without a dentist who tried to book in the previous month failed. For most people the realistic choices are paying privately, travelling within the UK, or treatment abroad.
The China route
Booked around your trip, priced by regulation
You send a recent X-ray or scan, we get an itemised quote from a public hospital and book the dates around your flights. Implants still need two visits 3–6 months apart, because the bone has to heal. Smaller work such as crowns or root canals can be done in one visit.
We handle the China part
An English-speaking coordinator from airport to aftercare
We book the hospital, meet you at the airport, arrange a hotel near the hospital, put an interpreter beside you at every appointment, help with WeChat and Alipay payment, translate your reports into English and stay in touch for follow-up after you fly home.
Common questions
How long is the wait for an NHS dentist?
There is no national NHS dental waiting list to join, so there is no single waiting time. In England, 94.1% of adults without a dentist who tried to book an NHS appointment in the previous month could not get one (ONS, 2024). Many people wait months or give up and go private.
How much does private dental treatment cost compared with the NHS?
Private prices are set by each practice. For an implant, which the NHS generally does not provide, UK private practices typically charge GBP 2,000–3,000, with a median of about 2,500 (practice survey, 2026). A routine implant at a Chinese public hospital costs about CNY 6,000–7,000 (≈ USD 900–1,050).
Can you get dental treatment at a hospital instead?
NHS hospital dental departments mainly treat patients referred for specialist care. They are not a walk-in alternative to a high-street dentist. For urgent pain, NHS 111 can direct you to an urgent dental service.
