1 · Health checkup
A tiered checkup at a public hospital checkup centre
Large Chinese public hospitals run their own checkup centres with published package prices. At Hangzhou First People’s Hospital the four tiers run from CNY 1,320–1,670 (≈ USD 200–250) to CNY 6,880–7,723 (≈ USD 1,050–1,150), and the top tier adds CT, MRI of the head plus one other area and tumour markers. Reports take some days: Beijing Chaoyang Hospital issues its paper checkup report in 7–8 working days and also sends it by WeChat.
2 · TCM consultation
A TCM physician looks at the same person from a different angle
A hospital TCM physician asks about sleep, digestion, energy and, for women, the cycle, reads your tongue and pulse and describes your constitution, then suggests changes to diet and daily routine. The outpatient fee at a Beijing public tertiary hospital is CNY 50 (≈ USD 7) for an ordinary physician up to CNY 100 (≈ USD 15) for a renowned expert. Results differ from person to person, and in China TCM is used alongside medical care, not instead of it.
