Cancer second opinion

A written second opinion on your cancer diagnosis from the multidisciplinary team of a large Chinese hospital

For people in the US, UK, Canada and Australia who have a cancer diagnosis and want a second view of their case. We pass your reports to the multidisciplinary team (MDT) of a partner Chinese hospital, and the hospital issues a written second opinion signed by its licensed doctors. This website does not give medical advice, and the opinion does not replace your own doctor. Before anything is sent, we tell you the hospital, the fee and the expected time. Tell us about your situation first: we confirm we can arrange it, then ask you to send your reports.

What you get

A written opinion signed by licensed doctors

The opinion is written by the multidisciplinary team of a partner Chinese hospital and signed by its licensed doctors. It names the hospital that issues it. It can cover the team’s view of your diagnosis and staging, the treatment options they see, and any further tests they think are needed. You receive an English translation together with the Chinese original.

What you do not get

No medical advice from us, and no replacement for your own doctor

This website and our coordinators do not give medical advice and do not comment on the plan your own doctors have made. The opinion is for you to discuss with your own doctor, who knows your full situation. If you have severe or worsening symptoms, contact your doctor or local emergency services now instead of waiting for a second opinion.

What to prepare

Your reports, not your scan files

Please have these ready: your pathology report; staging and imaging reports (as text or PDF); a list of the treatment you have had so far and any you are having now; your current doctor’s treatment plan, if you have one; and up to three questions you want answered. In this first version we work from reports only and do not take raw scan files. Do not send anything yet. We first confirm we can arrange your case, then ask you to send the reports.

Cancer care in China

Facts, not promises

China has 164 cancer specialist hospitals (end 2023), and its drug regulator approved 76 class 1 innovative drugs in 2025. Domestic PD-1 inhibitors are listed at CNY 2,101–2,928 (≈ USD 310–440) per vial on the national reimbursement list (2019–21), and a foreign patient pays that price in full without Chinese insurance. These are prices and counts. They say nothing about whether a treatment would work for you, and a medicine sold in China may not be approved in your country. Only doctors with your full records can judge what is right for you.

Privacy and your records

Your records go to one named hospital, for this opinion only

We send your records only to the hospital we have named to you, and only the documents needed for your opinion. They are used for this second opinion and nothing else. Sending health records to China is a cross-border transfer, so we ask for your separate consent before anything leaves your hands. You can decide not to go ahead at any point before you give that consent.

How a second opinion works

  1. 1

    1. Tell us about your situation

Use the form to tell us where you live, the type of cancer and which reports you have. Do not attach any files at this stage.

  2. 2

    2. We check your documents are complete

We check that you have the reports a hospital team needs and that a partner hospital can review your type of cancer. If something is missing, we tell you what. If no partner hospital can take your case, we tell you that honestly.

  3. 3

    3. We tell you the hospital, the fee and the expected time

Before anything is sent, you know which hospital will review your case, what it costs and how long it is expected to take. We forward your reports only after you agree and give your separate consent to the transfer.

  4. 4

    4. The hospital team writes the opinion

The hospital’s multidisciplinary team reviews your reports and your questions, and issues a written opinion signed by its licensed doctors.

  5. 5

    5. We send you the opinion in English

You receive an English translation together with the Chinese original. Take it to your own doctor and discuss it with them.

Common questions

How long is the NHS wait for cancer treatment?

In England, the standard is that 85% of patients start their first treatment within 62 days of an urgent referral for suspected cancer. In July 2026, 71.2% did (NHS England, provisional), and the standard has not been met since December 2015. Within 31 days of a decision to treat, 92.5% started treatment against a 96% target. In Scotland, 73.6% started within 62 days in the quarter to June 2026, against a 95% standard. In Wales, 60.7% did in December 2025, against an 80% target. Your own wait depends on your cancer type and your hospital, and your care team can tell you what to expect.

How long is the wait for treatment in Canada after a cancer diagnosis?

Canadian cancer waits are short compared with other specialties. The median wait from being ready to treat to a first radiation treatment was 13 days in 2025, and 90% started within 22 days (CIHI). Median waits for cancer surgery in 2023 were 22 days for breast, 23 for colorectal, 26 for lung, 28 for bladder and 52 for prostate (CIHI). From GP referral to treatment, radiation oncology and medical oncology had the shortest waits of any specialty in 2025, at 4.2 and 4.7 weeks (Fraser Institute). For most people in Canada, a second opinion is about a second view of the diagnosis and options, not about speed.

Where in China can cancer treatment be received?

At the end of 2023, China had 164 cancer specialist hospitals, 43 of them with 800 or more beds, and large general hospitals also have oncology departments, with 290,898 oncology beds across all institutions (China Health Statistics Yearbook). In 2024 Shanghai designated 13 public hospitals for an international medical tourism pilot. For a second opinion, the hospital depends on your type of cancer, and we tell you its name before anything is sent.

How much does cancer treatment cost in China?

There is no single price, because it depends on the cancer, the treatment and the hospital. Some published reference prices: domestic PD-1 inhibitors at CNY 2,101–2,928 (≈ USD 310–440) per vial on the national reimbursement list (2019–21); CAR-T at CNY 1,200,000 (≈ USD 179,100) to about CNY 1,290,000 (≈ USD 192,550) per infusion; and proton therapy at mostly CNY 260,000–270,000 (≈ USD 38,800–40,300) per course (2024). A foreign patient pays in full without Chinese insurance, and hospitals quote each case individually. Chinese hospitals do not publish a price for a written second opinion for overseas patients, so we tell you the fee for your case before anything is sent.

Is CAR-T therapy available in China, and what does it cost?

Yes. Several CAR-T products are approved in China, and all five that applied were placed on the 2025 list of innovative drugs for commercial insurance issued by China’s National Healthcare Security Administration. One product is priced at CNY 1,200,000 (≈ USD 179,100) per infusion and another at just under CNY 1,300,000 (≈ USD 194,050), and commercial CAR-T prices in China have stayed at CNY 1,000,000 (≈ USD 149,250) or above (Chinese media, 2021–26). In the US, 2025 wholesale prices for CAR-T products ranged from USD 462,000 to 593,533. Whether CAR-T is relevant to a particular person depends on the cancer type and previous treatment, which is a question for doctors who have the full records.

Where can you get proton therapy in China?

Nine proton therapy centres were operating in mainland China at the end of 2024. Counting Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, 24 proton therapy projects were in use in June 2026, with 9 more under construction or awaiting use (industry media). Most mainland centres charged CNY 260,000–270,000 (≈ USD 38,800–40,300) per course in 2024, with a range of CNY 170,000–295,000 (≈ USD 25,350–44,050). Whether proton therapy is suitable for a particular cancer is a medical decision for your doctors.

USD amounts converted at about CNY 6.70 per USD (2026-10-07), for reference only. Foreign patients pay the full listed price.
